• What is Speech & Language Therapy?

Speech and language skills are an important aspect of a student's academic success. It is essential that a student can communicate effectively with teachers and peers in the educational setting. Students may attend Speech in school for a variety of reasons. The student's speech and/or language skills must adversely impact their educational performance for remediation to occur in the school setting.

Some areas that we target during Speech sessions include:

    • Articulation:  Production of speech sounds to improve a child's ability to be understood
    • Language: Expressive (speaking) and receptive (understanding) language skills
    • Fluency: Learning to ‘smooth out’ their speech in problems such as stuttering
    • Voice: Quality of a student's voice (hoarseness, nasality, volume)
